Serenity Funeral Home Obituaries: Philip Simmonds, Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Simmonds, Jr., a beloved resident of Glens Falls, NY. Philip passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Fort Hudson Nursing Center in Ticonderoga, NY.

Born on September 20, 1944, in Syracuse, NY, Philip was the son of Thomas and Jean (Brown) Casey. He grew up in a close-knit family with a strong sense of humor, a ready smile, and kind words to share with those around him.

Philip attended Delphi University, where he specialized in Park and Recreation. His lifelong love and knowledge of sports led him to pursue a career in sports writing. He graduated from Trinity Pawling School in 1968 and later earned his degree from Waynesburg University in 1972.

Throughout his life, Philip was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time at the family camp in Harrisburg Lake, NY. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing with his friends and family.

Philip is survived by his wife, Ellen of Cos Cob, CT; his children, Timothy Healy (Amy) of Glens Falls, Michael Healy (Melissa Ferrie-Healy) of Queensbury, and Sheila Brazie (Scott) of Hudson Falls; his siblings, Philip Simmonds, Sr. (Jean Ann) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jeffrey T. Williamson (Tom) of Williamsburg, VA; as well as 13 nieces and nephews.

Philip's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Center for providing exceptional care and compassion during his time there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or the Serenity Funeral Home, Inc. in Hudson Falls.

Visitation will take place on Friday, August 30 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at St. Paul's Church on the Park in Hudson Falls. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Glens Falls.
