Lordstown Motors Takes on the Mexican Desert with its Electric Pickup Truck

In a bold move to prove the capabilities of its electric pickup truck, Lordstown Motors has entered the 2021 SCORE International San Felipe 250, a grueling off-road race held in Mexico's Baja California peninsula. The company aims to be the first electric vehicle to ever complete the demanding event.

The Lordstown Endurance is a full-size, all-electric pickup with a range of 250 miles, equivalent to 600 horsepower, and the ability to tow up to 7,500 pounds. To test its endurance, Lordstown has opted to participate in the 290-mile single loop race with an unfinished Beta skateboard chassis and powertrain.

According to Chairwoman Angela Strand, Lordstown is exploring multiple partnership constructs, including contract manufacturing and licensing agreements. The company's CEO, Steve Burns, believes that participating in this event is a significant milestone for the electric vehicle community, as it showcases the capabilities of an electric pickup truck in a challenging environment like Baja California.

Lordstown Motors has been working on its Endurance pickup truck since successful prototype and Alpha builds. The company will begin limited production of the truck in late September, with plans to start mass production soon after. With this participation in the San Felipe 250, Lordstown aims to prove that its electric pickup truck can keep up with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

The event, held on April 17, 2021, will see Lordstown's Endurance Beta skateboard chassis compete against other off-road vehicles in one of the most grueling desert races in the world.
